My Breastfeeding Journey – Somya Sood Photography

I breastfed my son for 15 months. I found it to be not only a beautiful experience but also super convenient. No bottles to worry about, night feedings, traveling, everything was super easy.

What helped was meeting this amazing lactation consultant early on who taught me how to make sure my son latched properly and also to trust my instincts.

It was really tough sometimes, l wouldn’t lie. During growth spurts it feels like you are feeding continuously. And all the mixed advices you get from everyone who has been a parent make you doubt every little decision. When you have to feed your baby frequently and for long durations everyone around you starts saying that the baby isn’t getting enough feed. They don’t realize how small the baby’s tummy is and how the supply builds through on demand feeding. I would just recommend that you trust your instincts and do what feels right for you and your baby.

There is so much pressure on women to be perfect at everything. Breastfeeding is not for everyone. Sometimes you try and it doesn’t happen, sometimes you listen to others and give in. Sometimes it just doesn’t feel right to you. It can be exhausting and severely restrictive for mothers.

Give yourself a break. I’ve seen all formula fed babies turn out smart and healthy.
